How to Spot a Spiritual Counterfeit Spouse and Protect Your Destiny
Many people believe that every dream or “blessing” comes from a higher power. However, life often shows us that the enemy can send fakes to distract us. These “counterfeits” look like the real thing at first. They might even appear in your dreams or show up exactly when you are looking for a partner. This story shows how one man almost fell into a trap that could have destroyed his entire future. By using discernment and listening to warnings, he escaped a situation that would have ruined his life.
This is the story of my life of how satan sent a counterfeit spouse years ago when I was in my early 20s. I was in college focused on my studies and my relationship with Jesus Christ. Therefore, let this be a lesson that there is something known as a counterfeit spouse. Make no mistake that satan watches and finds ways to try to destroy your life.
The Mystery Girl at Work
During my junior year of college, I worked a part-time job. I usually went to my classes before heading into work. While I was there, I noticed a girl who would constantly stare at me. At first, I did not think much of it. People stare for many reasons. Sometimes they like your clothes or your energy. I decided to ignore it and just keep doing my job.
This staring did not stop. It went on for an entire month and then months after. Then, I remembered something strange. I had seen this exact girl in a dream a few years before. This made me wonder if she was important. Because she appeared in a dream and was now in my real life, I started to pay more attention. However,
Warnings and Rumors
I was friendly with some guys in her department. They told me she was a nice person. But they also mentioned some rumors about her lifestyle. They suggested she was involved in things that did not align with my values. Specifically, they mentioned she was attracted to the same gender.
As a person of faith, I immediately backed off. I did not want to get involved with someone living that kind of life. I felt it was dangerous to move forward. But the girl kept trying to get my attention. She would stare me down while I ate lunch in my car. She would smile and try to start conversations.
One of my coworkers told me I should give her a chance. He said the rumors might be false. I started to wonder if I was being too hard on her. I thought that maybe she was my God-ordained spouse. I thought the dream from years ago was a sign. Little did that I know that this was a counterfeit spouse in the making and now my faith in Jesus was tested later.
The Confusion of Dreams
I began to have more dreams about this girl. These dreams were confusing. In one dream, things seemed fine. In the next dream, they did not. I felt like I was at a crossroads. Eventually, I decided to approach her. I wanted to see if the rumors were true or if she was the woman meant for me. I did not know much at the time about spiritual knowledge like a counterfeit spouse and my discernment wasn’t as good as now.
When I finally talked to her, she was honest. She admitted she was involved in that alternative lifestyle. She confirmed the rumors were true. I knew right then that I had to disconnect. I decided to stay away and only treat her as a distant acquaintance. Well, I actually cut her off and decided to keep my distance as I knew that this siutation could turn out bad even being friends with her.
When it comes to a counterfeit spouse and you know that you are not to be unequally yoked, it is best to distance yourself from that person. A counterfeit spouse is used by the devil as a distraction and to possibly destroy your life. It is best to trust God for a future spouse as God’s favor will reign supreme rather than falling into the devil’s trap.
A Warning from the Divine
Later, a family member who is very close to God gave me a warning. They told me the enemy had set up this entire situation. God saved me at the last second. If I had started a relationship with her, it could have destroyed my destiny.
She carried a spirit of perversion and a spirit of destruction. It was revealed to me that she was walking in darkness. I even had a dream where a man, who may have been Jesus Christ, looked very upset with me. He did not approve of me approaching her. When your chosen by God, you have to be careful as the devil is always looking to destroy your life.
Satan will send a counterfeit spouse especially in your single season as many people can be desperate and lonely making them vulnerable to the devices of the enemy. However, trust God using your discernment and listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit as a counterfeit spouse has destroyed many christian’s lives.
Why Discernment is Vital
You cannot trust everything you see or dream. The enemy knows what you want. If you are waiting for a spouse, he will send a fake version to test you. A counterfeit spouse can be your biggest test as many people fall weak to the flesh especially if the counterfeit spouse is phyiscally attractive.
- Not every dream is from God. The enemy can use dreams to lead you into a trap.
- Physical beauty is deceptive. Someone can look “quiet” or “nice” but hide a dark life.
- Spirits can transfer. Who you sit with and who you date affects your own spirit.

The Danger of the Secret Life
Years after this happened, I found her social media page. I was shocked by what I saw. On the outside, she was a quiet girl who kept to herself. People thought she was the “girl next door” type. But her online posts were nasty and disgusting. She was posting “thirst traps” and living a life completely different from mine.
The Bible says that what is done in the dark will come to the light. This was proof. She acted one way at work but lived a different way behind closed doors. This is why you cannot judge someone just by how they look. You have to look at their heart and their fruits.
Lessons from the Past
I am thankful I did not fall for the trap. I could have ended up with a sickness or a ruined reputation. Many people have their lives wrecked because they choose the wrong partner. Think about Samson and Delilah. Samson lost his strength and his purpose because he fell for a counterfeit.

Your destiny is too valuable to throw away on a counterfeit. If you get around the wrong people, everything in your life can start to drop. Your health, your money, and your peace can all slide downhill. This happens when you connect with people who carry spirits of destruction.
Always seek extra confirmation. If you have a mentor or a family member who is strong in their faith, ask for their opinion. They might see things that you are too distracted to notice. Being close to the Most High is the only way to stay safe from these traps.
In conclusion, stay on guard. The enemy is watching and waiting for a chance to trip you up. Just because something looks like a blessing does not mean it is from God. Use your discernment and keep your circle clean. If you stay close to God, He will reveal the truth before you make a mistake you can’t fix.
