Why You Will Face Enemies While Walking With God

Walking with God on the narrow path is a special journey, but it is not always easy. Many people talk about the blessings and the peace that come with faith. While those things are true, there is another side to the story that people often skip. When you decide to follow Jesus Christ and walk the narrow path, you will face opposition. You will gain enemies. This is not a sign that you are doing something wrong. In fact, it is often a sign that you are exactly where you need to be. The narrow path won’t always be easy as it can come with obstacles but it is worth it.

The Reality of the Narrow Path

the Bible tells us that the path to life is narrow. Only a few people find it and stay on it. This path requires you to leave certain things behind. As you change your life to follow God, you will notice that not everyone is happy for you. On the narrow path to Jesus Christ, you will face jealous and envious people.

When you are dedicated to Jesus, you are no longer like everyone else. This difference creates friction. If you look at the history of faith, every real follower of God had enemies. You cannot be a serious believer and expect everyone to like you. Majority of people in the world choose to walk the broad path, leaving those on the narrow path in a small category.

Matthew 7:13-14:

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Examples of Enemies in the Bible

You are in good company if people are against you. Some of the greatest figures in the Bible faced huge obstacles and powerful enemies.

  • David: He had to face Goliath and ran from King Saul.
  • Moses: He had to stand against Pharaoh to lead his people to freedom.
  • Elijah: He had to deal with the wicked Queen Jezebel.
  • Jesus and the Disciples: They were constantly attacked by the Pharisees and Sadducees.

If Jesus Christ faced enemies while he was on earth, his followers will face them too. The servant is not higher than the master. If the world hated Him, it will likely have an issue with you as well. Those who walk the narrow path will eventually have enemies as speaking the truth will make many people unhappy.

Luke 13:24

“Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”

The Trap of People Pleasing

To walk this path, you must stop trying to make everyone happy. You cannot be a people pleaser and a servant of God at the same time. If your goal is to be everyone’s friend, you will eventually compromise your faith. On the narrow path, you are a God pleaser. It is not your job to please people but only Jesus Christ.

God often calls people who are already comfortable being alone or who do not care about being “cool.” He uses people who are willing to stand on the truth of the Bible even when it is not popular. When the world demands an apology for your beliefs, a true follower stands firm.

Character TraitWhy It Matters
IntegrityYou stay true to the Bible even when it’s hard.
IndependenceYou don’t need the crowd to tell you what is right.
CourageYou face critics without backing down.

Why People Become Your Enemy

It might seem strange that people get mad at you for doing good. You might stop going to clubs, stop getting drunk, or stop sleeping around. You would think people would be happy you are healthy and focused. Instead, they often get angry. The narrow path requires holiness and dedication to God which alot of people don’t want.

This happens because your light exposes their darkness. When you refuse to join in on things like smoking or gossiping, it makes others feel guilty about their own choices. They might start rumors about you or call you names. They are not really mad at you; they are reacting to the Spirit of God inside you.

The spirit of God inside of you makes them mad because you choose to follow the ways of Jesus Christ instead of following the world heading to destruction. Many people are sheep and when you don’t follow what they follow, they deem you as weird, hate you and may even try to witchcraft you placing you on evil altars.

Proverbs 14:12

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

The Danger of Being a Lukewarm Christian

There is one way to avoid having enemies: be a lukewarm Christian. If you act like the world and never stand up for your faith, people will leave you alone. However, this is a dangerous place to be.

The Bible says that Jesus would rather you be hot or cold. If you are lukewarm, He will spit you out. You cannot serve two masters. You are either with God or you are with the world. Being a “friend of the world” actually makes you an enemy of God. You have to learn to leave the world for Jesus Christ. The reality is that walking with God is not for the weak as you need to be strong.

Key Takeaways on Lukewarm Faith:

  • It does not impact anyone for the better.
  • It tries to please people instead of God.
  • It ignores the command to pick up your cross.
  • It leads to a dangerous spiritual state.

Facing the Digital War

In 2026, the battle often happens online. You can see videos of violence or harm that stay up on social media for a long time. But as soon as someone posts the truth about Jesus, their channel might get flagged. Their views might drop, or their account might get deleted. This is a spiritual war. The world is okay with many bad things, but it often hates the name of Jesus.

We live in a wicked generation that hates truth so when your walking on the narrow path, you can expect to face resistance as you speak the word of God. Many people want their eyes tickled with lies but those who are chosen by God speak with boldness and authority.

You may continue to face more backlash in these last days as satan is using many people to go against followers of God. Walking the narrow path may come with more resistance with more demonic agendas being pushed in the open. Many people choose to go against God’s people but they fail to realize that God will give his people the victory.

God Is Your Protector

Even though you will have enemies, you do not need to be afraid. You are walking with the Most High God. Throughout history, those who went up against God’s people eventually lost. Pharaoh lost. Jezebel lost. The critics of Jesus lost. Your enemies will not prevail over you as you serve an almighty God

When God blesses you, no man can curse you. It does not matter what your coworkers, neighbors, or even your family members say about you. Their opinions do not change your future. God is the one who decides if someone is blessed or not making other people’s opinion of you irrelevant. People do not determine your ultimate future but Jesus Christ does.

Conclusion

Walking the narrow path means you will face trials. You will lose friends, and you will find people who want to see you fail. This is part of the cost of discipleship. It is a sign that you are moving higher in the spirit and that the enemy is trying to distract you. The enemy will even use your own loved ones against you.

It will be painful for many people losing your loved ones and friends but this comes with walking the narrow path. You are giving up alot to walk with Jesus Christ. This is often not what is talked about but this is the reality of the christian life when walking the narrow path. Christianity seems trendy to many people but it comes with sacrifices for the kingdom of heaven

Do not let the fear of enemies stop you. Keep your eyes on God because He is the only one who will judge you on the final day. People cannot decide your eternal destination, but God can. If He is on your side, it does not matter who is against you. Stay strong, stay righteous, and keep walking the path He has set for you.

Are you ready to stop pleasing people and start pleasing God? The road is narrow, but the reward is eternal.
